I decided to spend a few nights in Newcastle as the hostel was cheap and there were a lot of surrounding places for me to visit.
I decided to stay in the Newcastle area for the first few days.
I thought Newcastle would be more modern. But it was an average place. There were certainly a large amount of abandoned buildings or ones being demolished. I assume it will be modernising the city centre as a result.

Surrounding Area
The public transport around Newcastle is very affordable and well connected. You could buy a day ticket for the metro for £5.70 (I used this as much as I could. I went to the furthest points you could basically go on each line).
I decided to visit South Shields first as it looked like it would be the most interesting beach town in the area.
I then crossed over to North Shields using the ferry and got the metro back. North Shields was mainly residential so there wasn’t much to look at.
The next day I decided to visit Seaburn (again it looked the most interesting). Whilst I was there i realised that there was a National Trust lighthouse nearby (only an hours walk lol).
It was a nice day so I didn’t mind the walk and the exploration of the lighthouse.

After finishing with the lighthouse I got the bus to Sunderland (my next accommodation). I had to go back to Newcastle to pickup an Amazon package that day because Amazon delayed their shipment. So I utilised the Metro day ticket well that day.
I had originally wanted to visit Sunderland for their castle. But upon doing a bit more research I realised that it had been modernised inside so I would only be able to view it from the outside. As a result I decided to explore the area instead and chill by the “duck” pond (although it mainly contained seagulls).
